U.S. News, Time Weigh In

The latest issue of U.S. News & World Report features the cover story entitled “A Return to Tradition.” Brian McLaren, Tony Jones, and George Barna (among others) are quoted in the article. Brian says, “Protestantism has been in a centrifugal pattern for so long, with each group spinning away from others. But now there is some kind of pull back to the center.”

Tony adds, “The problem is not the issues. The problem is how we talk about issues. We are going to live in reconciliation with each other, and traditional practices are what restore us and hold us together.”

Also in U.S. News, there’s a short article entitled “Mixing Jesus with Java,” which focuses primarily on the style and form of one emerging church community. There is a good quote from Fred Burnham, however, in which he states, “Holding the balance is what the emergent church is dealing with.”

Related: TIME Magazine recently featured a short profile of Rob Bell of Mars Hill Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, entitled “The Hipper-Than-Thou Pastor.”

UPDATE: USA Today takes a look at the Advent Conspiracy in today’s op-ed column “The real meaning of Christmas?”
