Some upcoming events to take note of:

Global Poverty Prayer Week – November 12-18
Sponsored by Tearfund UK and 24-7 prayer network, there is a free video and other resources available. As Christine Sine writes, “It is easy for us in the hype of consumerism that leads up to Thanksgiving and Christmas to forget that half our world’s population still struggles to provide the basic necessities to survive. I would ask you to join us in prayer for our less fortunate sisters and brothers around the world and more than that I would ask you to consider what God would have you do to make a difference in their lives.”

Make Something Day – November 23
The Ecclesia Collective writes, “As followers of Jesus, we believe that giving is a central part of the lifestyle we are trying embody. So, we replaced the negative with something positive: Make Something Day. Go ahead and give gifts this holiday season. As the say, giving is better than receiving. But that doesn’t mean buying something is. So, we encourage folks to avoid shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Instead, stay home, put a log on the fire and try making something for someone.”

Advent Conspiracy – December 25
Rick McKinley (Imago Dei Community) and Chris Seay (Ecclesia Church) started this last year, and it just continues to grow as an international movement. The goal is this: “restoring the scandal of Christmas by worshipping Jesus through compassion, not consumption.” Darryl Dash writes about it here. The Work of the People has produced a few videos, such as this one:
