Sampling the Emergent Manifesto

Posted Nov 1, 11:12 PM | 5 comments | by Editor | Link

Baker Books is preparing to publish An Emergent Manifesto of Hope in April 2007, and they’ve posted a PDF excerpt from it online which includes the table of contents, Tony Jones’ introduction, and two chapters (one from Barry Taylor and one from Sally Morgenthaler).

Other books in the new Emersion imprint of Baker include Kester Brewin’s Signs of Emergence (July 2007) and Will and Lisa Samson’s book Justice in the Burbs (August 2007).

Looks like quality stuff, I think we should just continue to call every book manifestos. Beat the critics to the punch!

I really enjoyed the excerpt. Extremely helpful for those of us who are asking: Where do we go from here? Thank you for all your doing. Keep up the good work!

The church of the Lord Jesus Christ is His body. He takes care of His body. Everything about the church is up to Him. Your brand of “Christianity” is ungodly, unbiblical and downright wrong. It is the religion of the new world order. It is universalism. Read your Bible if you even have one. Wide is the way that leads to destruction and strait is the gate that leads to life. Emergent is on the broad way to destruction. Shame on you for trying to mislead people who love Jesus Christ and NOT THE WORLD. You will not control Jesus Christ’s kingdom with your intimate little mystical “churches”

This is just one more example of new age drivel. This book has nothing to do with the true Jesus Christ, or His Church. Repent and preach the Gospel, before it is too late.

Brett, so you’ve read the book? Or at least, the excerpt, I assume. Maybe you can share some specific examples of things that you find to be “new age.” Thanks.
