Reggie McNeal: "Missional Leadership Specialist"
If Reggie McNeal had a “page” on Facebook, I would be a fan. I’ve been a fan since reading The Present Future and sharing it with a number of my evangelical friends and family members. I still recommend it as an excellent entrée into the emerging missional church conversation because it wonderfully translates the postmodern shift (and its imperative implications for the Church) into “evangelical-ese” with a Southern/Baptist accent.
So I wanted to pass along an update on what Reggie is up to these days. He is actually working with Leadership Network (LN, the organization that helped Emergent Village get started) as a “Missional Leadership Specialist” and co-leading (with Eric Swanson) a “Missional Renaissance Leadership Community” group. Nine churches that are a part of that group have just completed two days of meetings in Dallas, and Stephen Shields was there to gather interviews and content for some future articles to be published by LN.
Stephen writes, “The first article will be on what precipitated these churches to transition from attractional to incarnational modes. ... I’m looking forward to what these churches accomplish as they seek to better serve their communities and segue from churches in their communities to churches for their communities.”
Here’s an interesting sound bite of something Reggie told this group as they met today: “The program-driven church cannot deliver on its promises because it overpromises.” (quoted by Stephen Shields and posted via Twitter)
Reggie also does a “Missional Leader” podcast, and he was interviewed recently on LN’s new “Audio Advance” podcast to explain what the “Missional Renaissance” group is all about. You’ll get a flavor for Reggie’s unique mind and style by listening to this.
