Read a Sample from "The Fidelity of Betrayal"
Peter Rollins’ new book The Fidelity of Betrayal is due out
April 30 in June, but you can read the prologue and introduction online now (in PDF).
In this follow-up to How (Not) to Speak of God, Rollins is once again asking provocative questions, such as: “What if one of the core demands of a radical Christianity lay in a call for its betrayal, while the ultimate act of affirming God required the forsaking of God? And what if fidelity to the Judeo-Christian Scriptures demanded their renunciation? In short, what would it mean if the only way of finding real faith involved betraying it with a kiss?”
In an email to Paraclete Press subscribers yesterday, Rollins wrote, “In this work I make the claim that, in order to remain faithful to Christianity, we must be courageous enough to betray the bible (section 1), God (section 2) and the church (section 3). Why? Do I think that we must abandon them as redundant relics of a by-gone era? Do I think that they have served their purpose? Or do I feel that they prevent the world coming of age? By no means! Here I argue for a betrayal that remains faithful to these very words by helping us to re-discover the truly untamed, white-hot, life-transforming reality that they house.
“This book was not easy to write and it will no doubt be difficult to read, but I hope that you find it to be a provocative and worthy dialogue partner as you continue to reflect upon what it means to follow Christ today.”
Paraclete Press is offering a special 30% discount on the book, for anyone that pre-orders copies from them before April 30.
Rollins will be doing a U.S. speaking tour in the fall.

I also thought of Endo’s books Silence (which I’ve read some weeks ago) and Sin (which I am reading now).
At the Paraclete site it lists June as the release date…I hope Amazon is the one that has it right. I can’t wait…
Adam,
Good catch. Paraclete has confirmed that the release date is, in fact, in June (not April 30). I’ve updated the blog post to reflect the correct info. Sorry to get everyone’s hopes up! ;-)
Aw. That sucks. April 30th is my birthday. I already pre-ordered it as my present : ) Oh well, June will come.

Wow. I see Shades of “Silence” by Shusaku Endo all over that description.
It’s an interesting premise. I read the above mentioned Endo book twice. Once in my “modern” mindset, and once after “swallowing the red pill,” and went from being mad-as-hell angry at the protagonist, to completely sympathetic.
In light of that, I’ll look forward to this one, even though I really didn’t get H(N)TSAB.
