Pentecost Projects
Here’s a couple Pentecost-themed items to get on your radar:
Mark Van Steenwyk announced yesterday that the Jesus Manifesto website is hosting a Pentecost-inspired writing competition called “Stepping Into the Wind.” The task is to describe in 1,000 words or less the theme of Pentecost “in light of the world’s struggles.” The question they are asking is: How can Pentecost can provoke our imagination for the 21st Century?
(Sounds a little reminiscent of the recent atonement contest we held here. If you missed that, do check out the winning entries.)
Also, check out the Pentecost Project, which is “an experiment towards a more true and loving economy.” As the website explains, “As we approach the release of rebate checks from the U.S. government as part of its 2008 economic stimulus package, we are wondering if there is a better way to stimulate the economy than to become greater individualistic consumers. Instead of blowing our rebate checks on new iPods or as down payments on new cars, we propose that we can: invest in others, share possessions, reduce debt.”
(Related: Check out “The New Austerity” in TIME Magazine, linked here.)
Finally, Scot McKnight has been running a series on “Preparing for Pentecost,” which is worth a read.

Thanks for the nod, EV! We’re working this week on coming up with a Call To Action that will be plenty fluid enough for people to imagine and create the Pentecost Project within their own communities yet helps people better understand what its all about.
Keep your eyes peeled…we’ll also have some pretty great resources to offer to help people connect.
