Kingdom Patriotism
Mark Van Steenwyk writes about pursuing “kingdom patriotism”: “The only ones who sacrificed for my freedom are Jesus and the martyrs … all of those who suffer for the Faith. If by adopting pacifism I dishonor America’s soldiers, by renouncing pacifism I dishonor the blood of Christ and the martyrs.”
... and his decision to server as a Christian Peacemaker: “Lately I’ve begun to realize that if I am to truly honor the sacrifices of my brothers and sisters throughout Church history, I too must be willing to lay down my life in the cause of Christ. I am compelled to no longer sit upon the sidelines.”
He quotes Ron Sider from 1984. Powerful words. Go read ‘em and give Mark a shout.
