First-Ever Catholic-Emergent Conference Being Planned for March 2009
The Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has announced that they will be hosting the first-ever Catholic-Emergent conference, March 20-22, 2009.
According to email from the CAC, “The conversation about the emerging church has been attracting a broad array of Christians — progressive Evangelicals and mainline Protestants along with some Roman Catholics — but this will be the first gathering to be planned and hosted by a team of Catholic and Protestant leaders working together for the good of the church at large. There will also be a post-conference for those who want to develop vehicles for deepening and sustaining the emerging energy for Gospel-centered justice, contemplation, and community.”

The conference will feature:
- Richard Rohr, OFM (founding director of CAC)
- Brian McLaren
- Alexie Torres-Fleming
- Shane Claiborne
- Phyllis Tickle
The conference is being called “The Emerging Church: Conversations, Convergence and Action,” and the post-conference will take place March 22-23.
As information becomes available, watch for updates here and on the CAC website.

Are the dates March 20-22 or March 22-23? Thanks. I’m really looking forward to this meeting; this is the start of the revitalization that the young adults of the Catholic Church need (and maybe some of the adults, too…).
Jackie,
Sorry I was unclear about the dates. The main conference will be March 20-22, 2009, followed by a “post-conference” gathering March 22-23. More details about both will be forthcoming, I imagine.
Good to see this up here. I’m a longtime supporter of CAC and Fr. Rohr’s work (did his menswork monastic “rites” back in August), and a more recent attender of an ELCA emergent church in the Chicago ‘burbs. Not sure if I’ll make it to New Mexico, but I’ll certainly be watching closely as a Catholic-Mennonite-Emergent journeyman. There’s room in the Village for all who are getting the message.

Hi
I think that this is a great start. Some will be shocked, but some of the best apologetics has been from now Pope Benedict XVI and spiritual insights from John Paul II
