Coming to the End of the Year -- Consider Emergent Village
From Tony Jones, national coordinator:
I travel more and more these days — maybe too much. But the travel excites me, mainly because of the excitement around Emergent right now. Sure, there are some blog attacks and book attacks, but the overwhelming response to what we’re up to is joy and anticipation of the future. Things are good, friends!
As I meet people all over the country (and, increasingly, the world), as a sort of “ambassador” for Emergent Village, I’m greeted with many thanks. “Emergent breathed new life into my ministry,” I’m told. “I don’t know if I’d be a Christian if it weren’t for that book I read …” “I love that podcast you produce!”
Really, it’s overwhelming. And it continues to be difficult to keep up with the constant interest.
But the books keep coming, and we’re planning more events for 2008. Our blog is kicking on all cylinders, and we continue to provide provocative content on the podcast.
And, we continue to believe that a small budget with little overhead and one part-time employee (me) is the best way to sustain this relational network we call Emergent Village. But even a small budget is a budget, and we rely upon the faithful support of many people to stay around from year to year.
So I’m asking that you consider Emergent Village in your year-end giving. We don’t want to usurp your giving to your church, or your support of missionaries and other organizations. We’d just like you to consider a gift of $50 or $100 per year. Or, you can do as some have and set up a $25 or $50 per month automatic contribution.
If everyone who appreciates the work of Emergent Village gave just a bit this year, we’d have more than enough to stick around for another year. (Of course, if you want to give a bigger gift, support a project, or something like that, please let me know!)
And this year, we have a special gift for you. If you give a gift of $50 or more, we’ll mail you a copy An Emergent Manifesto of Hope, edited by Doug Pagitt and yours truly. And if you contribute $100 or more, you get the Manifesto plus you can select another book from this pile:
Everything Must Change by Brian McLaren
Soul Graffiti by Mark Scandrette
A Community Called Atonement by Scot McKnight
Organic Community by Joe Myers
Signs of Emergence by Kester Brewin
Intuitive Leadership by Tim Keel
Justice in the Burbs by Will and Lisa Samson
