Additional Information on DC gathering

As we were tasked with gathering names to invite to this visioning/re-envisioning time for Emergent Village in Washington, DC in late April, we contacted a number of people in the EV community for suggestions on whose participation in this process would be invaluable for the next chapter of EV.

For this gathering, we’re looked for people who:

• Are willing to come as learners – releasing previously held models and instead working to build awareness for what is coming forth from the collective intelligence
• Are swimming within the larger system of EV and who have ears to listen from “the whole”
• Are willing and able to live into the tension of EV’s structure, valuing friendship and embracing a widening integration
• Are committed to participation in the entire process. We will build what is called a ‘container’ – a social field that can hold open conversation with people sharing mutual value.

As a result we invited 34 people. Of course, there are many more people whose participation would have been helpful, but the intimate process that we’re engaging for the weekend necessitated that we ask only a very limited number of people to attend. Many who were invited had scheduling conflicts and this were unable to attend. There will be 24 of us present—about the maximum number of people who could gather and come to a shared vision with action items for the immediate future.

The five of us who are doing the work of pulling together this gathering, only accepted the task knowing that it would be short-term. We do not believe that we are the right people to lead the way forward; only that we happened to be the people willing to do the work of transitioning to the next chapter. Our hope and prayer is that a new direction (with whatever new leadership is needed and appropriate) will emerge from the diverse gathering of people who will be in DC in just over a week (racially, culturally, economically, and in terms of Christian faith traditions).
