I am currently a member of Calvary Chapel which claims to be non-denominational.
A while back our pastor decided he wanted to bring all the churches together in a family of unity where we would only have different names but a unified body.
I thought this was great and I wanted to be part of it. A little later we were scheduled to meet at a Baptist church. I was glad that we were making some headway. I remember our pastor telling us we could minister to them. This seemed odd to me.
When we went and had our time together in which their pastor gave his sermon stressing several times that his belief is Baptist and our pastor got up and gave his sermon with emphasis on the right way (without putting it into words), I wondered who is ministering.
Later I gave a lot of thought to the outcome and decided there was no difference between both sermons. One was Baptist and the other by Calvary chapel. Both churches remained unempressed by the other, yet both were identical pretty much in all aspects.
This bothered me, so I decided to do a private study on what I saw in our churches in the present.

1 – Our churches has strict bounderies. It isn’t so much the bounderies but that we are kept well within them that bothers me most. The actual practice is considerably less than the set bounderies.

2 – The Spirit of God is suppressed in that the belief is almost exclusively fleshly oriented. It is always about Jesus in actual practice but almost never in a spiritual sense. That is, any seeking consist of words in the Bible which I do believe is the word of God, instead of spiritual seeking.

3 – Prayer is stressed but meditation is seldom ever mentioned and when it is, it is clarified that it is contemplation.
Prayer and meditation are equal in value. To live without either one is like trying to build a house with one hand. In prayer, we pour out our heart to God. In meditation, we seek instruction from God.

4 – Lastly, most churches seem to be spending an aweful lot of time in finding fault with other churches or denominations. It almost seems like we will cross land and sea to save one soul and make him twice what we are.

I am ending it there although there are many more ways I could mention. The truth as I see it is, our churches are rendering themselves ineffective in that God is not able to use them for any reasonable service.
