UPDATE 2
Everything is fixed and the updated file is live. If you’ve previously downloaded the episode you will want to download it again. Nothing has changed except for Brian’s part. Note the name of the new file in iTunes: McLarenCast: Episode 1, Part 1 (FIXED). Thanks for everyone’s patience during the delay!

UPDATE
It looks like we’re having some technical issues on our end. The file that actually went out was Episode 2: Crisis, pt. 1. We’re working on fixing this so that we can keep everything in the right order. Once it’s fixed the new episode will go under the same name with “repost” in the title. So some of you may have to re-download. Again, we’re sorry for the confusion. We’ll keep you update here on our progress.

This week’s show begins a series of talks from Brian McLaren that he recorded in 2006. This is a seven episode series, each with multiple parts, that will cover Creation, Crisis, Revolution, Calling, Conversation, Church, and Consummation and Celebration. This series will run parallel to the regular Emergent Village Podcast.

It seems that the episode actually attached here is Crisis, episode 2, pt. 1…

2Jon Ellis 04/03/2009 07:35 AM

Thanks Tommy!

this is a little embarrassing! I got this set and have been working my way through them, but just realized that I have files labeled Creation pt.s 1-4 and Crisis pt.s 1-4 and they’re each the same file! So I’m missing the whole first episode. I’m investigating this. If I find a solution soon I’ll post it here, otherwise, listen for an update in the next podcast this weekend. Sorry to everyone for the confusion, and thanks again, Tommy, for the correction.

Thank you so much for this podcast – whichever one it was! I wish I could hear this sort of message on a weekly basis at church – as a lifelong Christian and a dedicated science professional, this sort of message is so refreshing because it appeals to my whole self and helps me to see God.

No worries Jon, I thought I was going crazy when I started to listen to it.

I’m looking forward to hearing the series in it’s entirety.

I listened to the Brian McLaren podcast. This is definitely NOT Christian teaching by any stretch of the imagination. The teaching is a bit of Humanism/idolatry and Christianity mixed together. Christianity it’s not.

His interpretation of the text is “out there!” Bottom line, his teaching exults mother earth and not Jesus Christ. The “jesus” that Brian mentions in passing at the very end of the episode isn’t the Jesus of the Bible. There is a warning in the Bible to those who, “exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator” (Rom 1:25). Please take this to heart and turn away from such false teachers and BM. Turn to the one true living God, Jesus Christ.

Allen,

His interpretation may be different than what you’ve heard up to this point, but that doesn’t make it wrong. It just makes it different. Consider very carefully the methods of interpretation. He’s educated in literature, meaning he thinks in literary style. So his interpretation is literary.

I think his interpretation exalts Christ and takes seriously God’s creation. Your language sets the creation and the Creator at odds with one another, which is not biblical. God called the creation good and very good.

McLaren doesn’t worship the creation, far from it. He’s discussing creation and valuing it, just as God does in Genesis, Jonah, and Jesus’ teachings.

Does turning towards Christ, for you, mean turning your back on creation?

Thanks Jon!

When can we expect this series to continue? I’m really looking forward to it, and I may even end up using it for a small group at some point.

what am I doing wrong?
when I play the file, I only get a 3-second “intro tag”.

Hi all,

Just wondering when the McLarencast will continue. I loved both versions of Episode One!!

11Jon Ellis 05/04/2009 08:27 AM

Hey Jeff,

Are you using iTunes or clicking one of the feed links? Everything seems to be working on my end, but maybe I’m missing something.

Also, to everyone else, the new episode is up! Hopefully we’ll be rolling these out a more regular basis now. Thanks for listening!

12Jeff Horn 05/05/2009 07:10 AM

Jon, thanks very much.
I made a few file-format changes at once, and at least one of them worked!

Can’t wait to hear more of these.

dear brian,as another x exclusive I am so glad to hear your voice amongst the destructive barrage of propaganda from the majority of the christian world.my postmodernity admits that somewhere in there i am a go to the meeting @ 6am on sunday brethren boy.i am an agnostic ie i just don’t know.its hard 4 me to even admit the veracity of jesus existence as the sources are so unreliable.i am aware how damaging our (shared) background is and try to keep an open mind.you r the 1st christian i’ve heard of who seems to have a skerrick of honesty however much u seem driven by a need to validate your received wisdom.a brethren background seems to drive us all in various ways but driven we are in many different ways.

cheers rob
ps i remember your surname from the ‘levites ’ meetings in bristol in the 60’s….arelation?
