A Node in the Web of the Emerging Church

Help regarding web site

The Emergent Village web site was made possible by a grant from Abingdon Press.

How do I use the Google Calendar?

The Google Calendar displays all Emergent Village events. Even if you do not use Google Calendar, you can click on an event to get more details like a map to the venue and online registration links.

How do I subscribe to the Google Calendar?

You first need a Google Calendar account. Once you have signed up, you easily add events to your calendar. Or you can add the entire calendar by clicking “Subscribe with Google Calendar”.

What is the Cohort Blog Mashup?

The Cohort Blog Mashup is a agregation of all the blogs that cohorts maintain. This page is a great place to get a handle on what is going on at any moment with Emergent Village Cohorts.

What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a file format that is read by computers rather than humans. This site offers several RSS feeds that can be easily added to an RSS Reader.

RSS gives Emergent Village the ability to deliver content in any format — text, audio, or video — directly to anyone who desires it. If you want to browse and subscribe to feeds, there are thousands of different feed applications, also known as “news aggregators” or “podcatchers” (in the case of podcasts).

  • Bloglines is the most popular online version
  • Newsgator offers both a desktop and online version
  • Rojo offers a standard RSS reader plus tagging and social networking

As of March 2006, Techcrunch offers a nice overview of the state of RSS readers.

What is a podcast?

A podcast is just an audio file you can listen to on your MP3 player, desktop or laptop. Most people visit our Podcasts page and download the MP3 directly to their desktop. We also offer a podcast RSS feed which you can subscribe to with iTunes or Odeo.
