Emergent/Upstate NY

Welcome to the new emergent cohort in the Capital Region of upstate NY. Many are searching for authenticity in their Christian life. This blog is a starting point for emerging conversation. If you are not familiar with Emergent then check out www.emergentvillage.com then check with us for local gatherings. The conversation is open to all.

  1. Long time!
Hey everyone... Sorry it's been so long. I have been talking to some people about meeting again soon. I've been so busy starting a new church. Check back later for more announcements, in the meantime check out www.JourneyAlbany.com
  2. I Need Help!
Hey everyone. I need your help if we are going to keep the conversation going in the Capital Region. At the next gathering, let's get together and see if we can divy up some of the needed jobs (i.e. an email list, website, gathering places, etc). Our next cohort meeting will be on Monday, June 12th @ 7PM. We will meet in Panera Bread at 279 Troy Road in Rensselaer (click here for a map and directions). Bring your questions and let's have a good discussion! New faces are ALWAYS welcome. If you have any questions contact Josh at 518-522-5483 or jbrower3@nycap.rr.com. Grace and Peace.
  3. Back to Meeting (April Gathering)
Hey everyone. I went to Thailand and Cambodia last month with JFCI. For this month, how about discussing "missions" and seeing what we come up with. Our next cohort meeting will be on Monday, April 24th @ 7PM.
  4. I can't make it tonight
Hey everyone. I cannot make it tonight. I am leaving for Thailand and Cambodia this weekend with Justice for Children International, and I have to go to a clinic and get a bunch of shots tonight. Feel free to meet without me and have fun!

    Grace and Peace,

    Josh
  5. Let's Get Together, Y'all! (February Meeting)
Hey everyone. Sorry about not being able to make it last month. It was a crazy month for me. I went to Yale for the Emergent Theological Conversation. WOW... lots to talk about. For this month, how about discussing differing views of the atonement and sanctification (a process or immediate)? Our next cohort meeting will be on Monday, February 27th @ 7PM.

I have heard a lot about the emergent village from John Plummer and a few others. I would like to know more.
Blessings all,

Fr.Mel
(bishop-elect of a small independent catholic community ya probably never heard of).

I recently moved to upstate NY, and have been having issue finding a church family that, well, I agree with enough to join. In the process, I ran across some info on emerging theology, and am starting to think I’ve been a part of this movement without realizing it for years. Is this CNY group still active? I see the last real post was in July. Is there anything remotely of this movement in the Utica area? Is Albany really the closest? Any info is welcome.

Thanks,
Laura
