- The February Meeting at JFCI
Thank you, Justice for Children International, for hosting the February meeting of the Connecticut Emergent Cohort. It was great to spend some time with you, learn a little about the work you do, and have some excellent conversation. Thanks, Ivy, for facilitating the conversation and sharing your insights with us. And thank you to everyone who came. It was very good to be together. Anyone interested in joining the conversation is welcome to join us. If you have questions, please email me at oslovich@hotmail.com. We'll try to get together again in March.
Peace,
Tim - February 2007 Meeting
The Connecticut Cohort has not been very active over the past few months, but perhaps it is time to be re-invigorated. There are some new people on the email list, and we have some new energy as well.
The Cohort will gather at the offices of Justice for Children International (817 Chapel St., Suite 3E, New Haven, CT 06510) on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 PM. Our conversation partner will be Ivy Beckwith, author of _Postmodern Children's Ministry_ . Ivy also serves as the secretary on the Board of Directors of Emergent Village and has recently returned to Connecticut. (Welcome back, Ivy.) This will be a great gathering, and I hope you can make it.
Please let me know if you plan to attend.
Peace,
Tim Oslovich
oslovich@hotmail.com - June Meeting
Our next meeting of the Connecticut Emergent Cohort will be Saturday, June 17th at 4:00 PM at the home of Nancy Butler in Glastonbury, CT. (Email me for directions.) Our conversation partner for the day is Brother James Brent, O.P. (a friend of Karen Sloan who is part of our cohort). Brother James is a Dominican Friar in formation for the priesthood at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Br. James is currently writing a doctoral dissertation in philosophy on the relationship between faith and reason in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. He is also knowledgeable about many of the philosophers (e.g., Alasdair MacIntyre and Michael Polanyi) who have influenced emergent leaders like Brian McLaren. We will talk with him about faith and reason and how philosophy impacts life and faith.
Please email me with any questions.
Peace,

oslovich@hotmail.com - Best Sermon!Bono's Best Sermon Yet
Global rockstar, Soulful poet, Political activist... U2's dynamic frontman has worn many hats in his public life.
Now add "Prophetic Preacher" to that list.
At the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington last week (2/2/06), Bono delivered a riveting speech about the Bible's call for charity and justice on behalf of "the least of these" in the global community. His speech was remarkably explicit about the role Scripture, faith, and God play in his own life-- and a challenge to other Christ followers to move into action.
It was Bono's best sermon yet.
Marked by prophetic zeal, humility and humor, Bono began his remarks this way: "If you're wondering what I'm doing here, at a prayer breakfast, well, so am I. I'm certainly not here as a man of the cloth, unless that cloth is leather..."

The good Lord ushers in a new sky, which reveals a new season. It's the season of warmer weather and growth. The winter season seems to be a time of rest or death, while the spring season seems to be a time for growth and development. What is the Lord doing throughout this new season? Why is He putting us through this new season? What is He developing within us? Can we go from a winter rest to a spring growth? What does that look like? Although you may think that the Lord is doing things that are against what you might think is good for you, remember, God is beyond good, God is beyond love, God is beyond grace. Yes, He is these things, but He is greater and much more than these simple qualities. So may you be encouraged that the Lord is doing wonderful things during this season of your life. Be of good cheer as you hold tight to Christ.by: Huss @ "The Conversation"

I’d like to begin meeting with folks in the area: for conversations and deeds re the Jesus’ Kingdom project. I’m interested in justice-making, contemplative action, and much more … even disc golf and Guinness, community-supported agriculture and community organizing (not mobilizing, though). How about it? I live in Ashford, near UConn.
