3 Television Shows to Inspire Your Home Remodeling Plans

While people may still remember the housing market crash of 2008, the corresponding rebound has made real estate investing a hot topic! One of the most popular ways to explore the benefits of property investing is by redesigning or remodeling older properties. Who doesn’t love to watch an old home get the makeover that it deserves?

Thanks to the rise of reality television remodeling shows via networks like HGTV, numerous programs have been released over the past decade or so. There came a point in time when you couldn’t turn on cable television without running into some iteration of a home remodeling reality show.

While there are still countless home remodeling shows on cable networks, we’ve decided to highlight the top three television shows to inspire your own home remodeling plans!

1) Fixer Upper Leading the charge for inspiring home remodeling programs is Fixer Upper. Born on HGTV, Fixer Upper stars Joanna and Chip Gaines. In Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna help families around the country to find the perfect fixer-upper of their dreams. After settling on a property, Chip and Joanna go into the project with all of their tools at the ready. Fixer Upper premiered in 2013 and ran until 2018 when the program was canceled. Following the end of production, Chip and Joanna would launch their own production company in collaboration with HGTV’s president, Allison Page.

2) Designing Spaces The second program we want to highlight for inspiring your remodeling plans is Designing Spaces. Designing Spaces launched on TLC in 2005 and has been running ever since. The series is shot out of Miami, FL, though host Debi has gone around the country to give viewers an up-close and personal look at true remodeling productions. What we adore about Designing Spaces is the fact that they feature step-by-step transformations as well as similar shorter segments, such as this Designing Spaces partnership program. Designing Spaces is one of the longest-running remodeling shows on television, so take some time to dig in and see how you can renovate your home on a budget!

3) Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a spin-off remodeling program based on the original Extreme Makeover series. Launched in 2003, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has featured 10 seasons, 200 episodes, and numerous accolades from adoring HGTV fans. The series follows Ty Pennington as he leads personal home makeovers for families in all situations. Typically, the series involves a family that has endured a recent hardship with their remodel being geared toward providing longterm assistance. A large family with a small home, for example, would see a larger space designed for their children. The series was recently revived and should resume airing in 2020 on the HGTV network.

There are many ways to turn your home into something special without breaking your bank. The television shows that we highlighted above all feature remodeling jobs on a budget as well as more elaborate and exciting transformations. If you are looking for inspiration to tackle your next remodeling job, you’ve found it!
